The Smallville High prom – "Look to the Stars" as its theme – is underway with the band Lighthouse playing. Outside, a girl grabs a fire axe and heads out. Jonathan is walking through the halls and confronts . . . Chloe with the axe. She knocks him out then goes down to the furnace room and hits a pipe causing oil to spew out. Then she goes to the furnace, says, "You're all going to pay," and tosses a flaming mop toward the oil.

One Day Earlier

Chloe isn't thrilled with the prom and Lana isn't planning on going due to her reputation with Jason. Chloe persuades her to go but Dawn Stiles, the school snob-chick, barges in and announces that Chloe has been nominated for prom queen due to her article. Out in the woods, Lex is taken to see a corpse – that of Dr. Bridgette Crosby. Jason wanders over there as well but Lex blows off his concerns. Back at the school Clark convinces Chloe the vote for her is a protest and then admits he doesn't have a prom date. Chloe tells him he needs to get out of his rut as well. Dawn discovers her boyfriend Billy is hitting on a freshman and reads him the riot act, and he refuses to go, breaking up with her. She needs a new date and as she drives home she spots Clark in the yearbook and sets her sights on him. Focused on the phone, she drives off the road and her SUV crashes down into a ravine and right next to some green kryptonite. That night, she wanders onto the road as Martha drives by, only for her to run right over her. But she's intangible and is "absorbed" into Martha's body, taking control of it.

Clark returns home to find "Martha" dancing to loud music and eating ice cream. "Martha" becomes very insistent that Clark go to the prom and insists he'll go with her. Lois arrives and "Martha" accuses Clark of planning to go with her then storms out. At the Talon, "Martha" hears her friends dissing her behind her back then confronts Lana. Touching her, she jumps into Lana's body, leaving Martha who ha no memory of what happened. "Lana" confronts Clark and asks him to the prom. "Lana" helps with the prom set-up committee then goes after Billy. Grabbing an electrical cable, she electrocutes him in the locker room while Clark meets with Chloe to find Lana. Clark notices the power loss and rescues Billy and spots "Lana." She jumps into a new guy, leaving Lana to try and explain what happened, then jumps several more times to cover her trail, ending up in the body of Dawn's friend Harmony.

While Clark is at the hospital with Billy, Chloe and Lana compare notes and start to put things together. Dawn is in a coma at the hospital. They meet Clark at the hospital and "Harmony" shows up to pay a visit as well. "Harmony" isn't happy with her disfigured physical body then jumps into the nurse and shuts down her corpus. Meanwhile, Jason is checking Lex's e-mail when Lex comes in. Jason confronts Lex, noting he has an e-mail from Bridgette Crosby and that they were going to discuss an artifact. Jason isn't satisfied and goes to talk to Sheriff Adams. Lois is at the Smallville Clinic about her allergies when the "nurse" confronts her. Martha and Jonathan prepare to go to the prom as chaperones and Clark is still staying behind – until "Lois" shoes up in a prom dress and demands he take her to the prom.

Jason takes Sheriff Adams out into the woods to show her the body but now there's a gazebo that's been there for years. Sheriff Adams is less then impressed, particularly since there's no record she ever existed. After she leaves, Jason calls his mother and reveals he and she had something to do with Crosby's death – he has one of the artifact pieces and they planted it there so Lex would get rid of it for them. Clark and "Lois" show up at the prom and then Chloe arrives. Chloe is announced as the prom queen, much to "Lois"'s disappointment. Dawn leaps into Chloe, leaving a puzzled Lois, and then "Chloe" makes an out-of-character acceptance speech thanking Dawn. When the crowd cheers Chloe, "Chloe" gets irked and storms off.

We catch up to the opening sequence – "Chloe" grabs axe, coldcocks Jonathan, spills oil, prepares for ignition. This time around, Clark spots Jonathan who explains Chloe hit her. Clark asks his dad to "get something for me." Clark arrives and catches the flaming mop before it hits the oil. "Chloe" grabs Clark and Dawn jumps into his body. He stuns Chloe but Jonathan arrives with some green kryptonite as Chloe secretly looks on, faking unconsciousness. Dawn is forced to leave and dissipates up through the roof. Lois gets her explanation and is (relatively) okay with it. She turns down his offer to dance but Lana shows up and the two get together for a dance. Lois advises Chloe to focus on the future and that Clark doesn't have much of a future, much to Chloe's amusement. Even Martha and Jonathan get a dance, while Jason looks on as Lana and Clark dance.

RECAP:
It's prom season in Smallville and nobody wants to go. Chloe, Clark and Lana have all decided to sit it out because of their respective dating situations (Chloe and Clark aren't dating anyone, even though Clark could have used "My wife was hanged" as a pretty great excuse not to go; Lana doesn't want to take Jason). But there's a Mean Girls-esque girl named Dawn who does want to go, and when she's in a car accident and thrown out of her car into a pumpkin patch of Kryptonite, her disembodied spirit can swap bodies at will. Yes, like that Denzel Washington movie. She possesses MamaKent, Lana, Lois, Chloe, and even Clark on an unholy mission to be prom queen. She almost gets there, too, in the body of Chloe, who is surprisingly elected prom queen; but when she discovers that the students weren't voting against Dawn ironically, she freaks out and tries to burn the school down. Clark stops Dawn-in-Chloe's-body before being possessed himself and uttering the great line, "The crown's mine, bitch!" and smacking Chloe. Ow! Not cool, Clark! Bo Duke uses Kryptonite to exorcise the girl out of Clark's body and everyone goes back to pretending Bo wasn't recently shot or that this season hasn't been a total freakin' bummer.

Lois the Enhanced is asked to dance by Clark after ending up at the prom. But instead of saying, "Hey, give Chloe a pity dance," she directs Clark to dance with Lana, who just walked in looking preternatural for the occasion. She and Clark dance while the band Lifehouse serenade Lana on behalf of Al and Miles. Jason, who was there when the body of poor Margot Kidder was found on Lex's estate earlier in the episode, sees this dance and gets angry. Which fits with the plot twist that he's now evil and conspiring with his mom against Lex. Good for him! Chloe is told by Lois that she'll soon be free of all this horrible treatment she's suffered. I'm not so optimistic about her chances. (TWoP)

Oh, my god, I just had as much fun at Clark's prom as I did at my own! And trust me, I was tanked that night. From the get-go, I knew this was gonna be a riot, with convention-hating Chloe up for queen and that insipid clique-monster Dawn Stiles running around triggering flashbacks of the good old days at Monsignor Bonner High. Which is sort of weird, since it was an all-boys school, but whatever. It only made things merrier when vile Stiles met her end in a meteor-laden gorge while talking on her cell and driving — that act should be punishable by death anyway. And the whole Mean Girl Ghost body-jumping joke gave nearly everyone on the Smallville call-sheet a chance to let, like, totally loose. Though I'm not sure what was more of a hoot: Lois' Patty Simcox persona, the regressed Martha moaning about Lana being "so last year" or Clark's campy "that crown is mine, bitch" smackdown on Chloe. Let's just say a good time was had by all. Especially anyone who saw Lana show up at the end in that knockout outfit. Yowza. Is it even legal for teens to be that hot? Oh, and as for that twist with the DOA Bridgette Crosby, I guess those rumors about Jason's future are true after all, huh? Oh well. Laters! (TV Guide)

    Spoilers:
A girl named Dawn Stiles with a "pink blazer that's too dressy for school" has issues with Chloe, saying that Chloe is "using her little fake newspaper to undermine a tradition that all Crows hold dear." Dawn's got a lot of school spirit... Go Crows buttons and everything. Chloe had written a column about how archaic running for Prom Queen is - but apparently, her column got her nominated prom queen. Paige DeYoung and Dawn were also nominated. Dawn tells Chloe she's not going to win through her "trickery." Dawn approaches Clark and asks who he is taking to the prom. Clark stumbles. After the nominations are announced, Dawn plans to show a video of why she'd make an awesome prom queen - but instead the video is switched to something showing her in several embarrassing situations. She is humiliated.

It is a gardener named Hector that takes Lex and Jason to the spot on the Luthor grounds, where they all three look down to find the body of Dr. Crosby. Lex asks Hector if he told anyone about what he's found. When Hector tells him that he's told no one, Lex says "Thank you, Hector. That was wise. Why don't you take the rest of the day off. I'll handle it from here." Could Lex know more than he's letting on? KryptonSite
